Festivals in IrelandJuly 10th, 2019
Here in Ireland we love a good festival. So much so that we attend all year round, rain or shine (usually rain!) Music festivals, arts festivals, food festivals, even the odd few matchmaking festivals! Here’s a look at a few of our favorites!
St.Patrick’s Day– A national holiday here in Ireland that always falls on March 17th. It’s a day where we truly celebrate all things Irish! Festivities can go on for a 3-4 days. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other holiday. Now that’s something to be proud of! No matter where you base yourself in Ireland, the holiday will be well celebrated. We love to all green for the day so don’t forget to paint your face green, wear your favorite green top and sit back with a green ice cream cone (Or a green vodka if you’re feeling thirsty!)
Electric Picnic– This takes place in county Laois. The annual Arts & Music festival is considered the best Irish Music festival and really does have something for everyone! There’s a comedy tent, lots of stages, a circus, a fun fair, the tastiest food from around the country and so much more! It takes place in August/September. Headliners from previous years include The Chemical Brothers, Lana Del Ray, Florence & The Machine, Blur, and Arctic Monkeys to name a few! It’s definitely worth the visit if you can get your hands on a pair of tickets!
Sea Sessions– Songs, surfing and sessions. What more could you possibly want? Sea sessions take place in Bundoran, Co. Donegal – the capital of Irish Surfing. It’s the only event in the country offering the unique lifestyle aspects of surfing, music, skating, BMX, beach sports into a three-day camping festival. All for less than 150 Euro! It’s way too tempting to say no!
The Ploughing Championships– Or as we like to call it, ‘The Ploughin’ Match’. This is hosted every year over three days and the location changes most years. This one is for the farmers out there, but everyone is welcome! Basically, this is an agricultural show. But don’t be fooled by this- It really is for the whole family! There’s some fashion shows, livestock exhibitions, cookery demonstrations and much much more!
Taste of Dublin– Ireland’s premier food and drinks festival! 4 days of indulging in Dublin’s latest and greatest restaurants dishes and menus. You can enjoy demos, masterclasses, beer & wine tastings or you can just relax and take it all in! There’s also an entertainment stage here so you’re guaranteed to dance the weekend away with some of the top bands Ireland has to offer! If you feel like relaxing for the weekend, you don’t even have to walk around to each stall. Just Eat are there to take your order and deliver it back to you from the comfort of your own seat (Or bean bag!) Four days of eating, drinking and entertainment? Yes please!
Puck Fair– Ireland’s oldest and longest celebrated festival. It’s held every year without fail on the 10th, 11th and 12th of August in County Kerry! Every year a goat catcher goes up into the mountains to catch a wild goat. Where else in the world would you find a festival based around crowning a wild goat King Puck?? Only in Ireland, of course!
Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival– Yes, you read that correctly! Who needs Tinder when you have this? Speed dating, dances, sessions in County Clare – it has it all! Taking place over four weekends in September every year, it’s hard not to go, even for a day to see what all the fuss and fun is about! From speed dating to sessions in the pubs, we’re sure you’ll find some love here. Let matchmaker Willie Daly find you the perfect match!
