So enjoy the read, and feel free to pass it on to any one else you know thinking of coming to Ireland.

Name: Erin K
Age: 20 yrs
University: University of Minnesota
Length of time here to date: 3 months

What job are you doing in Ireland?
Basically, living the dream! I was only here 1 day and got a job at the Guinness Store House working parties and events! Currently on the search for a day job but just started looking and so excited to get this train rolling!

Where & Who are you living with here?
I just moved into my new apartment on Thomas Street, with my friend Eric and two guys originally from Pakistan. Great guys! The apartment needs a little tender loving care , but has great potential and awesome location

Whats your social scene like? Where do you go? What do you do etc?
where don’t we go??? I absolutely love the atmosphere here. It’s a mixture of the old school charm with a modern youthful vibe! The pubs and bars are all full of people from all over the world and everyone is about having a good time.

Your most memorable thing to date in Ireland?
I have only been here a few days and I am already in love with the Irish social scene! My first night here was Tuesday and of course I had to have my first pint of real Guinness! By the time I left the pub I had made friends with some English people and Irishmen and a few dashing Aussies… not a bad night!

Can you sum up your experience on the WII program to date?
I have had such a fantastic time already. The very first day here the bus driver helped me get to the USIT office and then gave me his phone number. Once inside all I saw were friendly faces and everyone was ready to help! Needless to say, I am already glad I did this!!

Advice you would give any students thinking about going on the WII program?
DO IT! I don’t think I can stress enough how great the experience is. It’s a chance to let loose and see the world. You are only young once, but if you do it right, once is enough. Live big or stay home!

Metallica

Metallica hit Dublin by storm

Never mind heavy metal music but music in general doesn't come much better than Metallica when they are on song. With classic hits like Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, and the chilling One these old-timers of metal had something for everyone.
So it was good to see both old and new rockers banging their heads together in tandem when James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and the others took to the stage in the RDS recently. But before Metallica took to the stage they had a little treat in store when the masked wonders which are Slipknot blew away the audience as the support act. With a mixture of death metal tunes, both real and fake blood oozing from every orifice, and horribly vile masks the crowd went wild for their show. Metallica kept the crowd waiting until night fell before coming onto the stage and it was worth the wait...

Bono celebrates his 46th birthday in Lillies of Dublin

U2 singer Bono celebrated his 46th Birthday with a very low-key knees-up with his two best mates Guggi & Gavin Friday in Lillies Bordello at the weekend...
the singing humanitarian celebrated his 46th with a new short-back-and-sides haircut and a couple of beers with his oldest mates and actor James Nesbitt... Bono and pals left Lillies by the back door in the early hours of Friday morning looking a tad merry but always willing to pose for a snap... Happy Birthday Mr Hewson!

  James Joyce Bloomsday

The first Bloomsday was on 16 June 1904, when James Joyce went on his first date with Nora Barnacle, his future wife. Years later, he chose to set Ulysses on the same day. Joyceans from all over the world congregate in Dublin to celebrate the life and work of their favourite author with readings, performances, breakfasts, walks, conferences and visits to the pub.
Traditional Dublin celebrations originated in 1954 when a small band of Dublin writers set out in horse-drawn cabs intending to visit all the locations of Ulysses. Today, wandering Joyceans continue in the same vein, and try to go to the places where the novel is set in order to reconstruct the events through readings, dramatisations and chance encounters.
Popular activities include: a full Irish breakfast and pint of Guinness in honour of Leopold Bloom, walking tours of Joyce's Dublin, theatrical readings from Ulysses and having a gorgonzola sandwich and a glass of burgundy in a pub for lunch.
