What job are you doing in Ireland?
I have registered with a few temp agencies, that work with the program, and am waiting for the right job to come along.

I am currently staying in a hostel until I find a nice flat here in the city.
Whats your social scene like?
I have been hanging out with and meeting with interesting people from all over the world at my hostel or on the Work in Ireland program. I have taken in lots of free music gigs in the Temple Bar area, and also have done some travelling to other cities in Ireland.

Spending the long Easter weekend in Killarney and going to the Van Morrison Concert which was awesome.

It is just the beginning and it has been so much fun so far. I am really looking forward to the next 15 weeks.
Advice you would give any students thinking about going on the WII program?

Bono launches Beckett Centenary Festival The festival program to mark the centenary of the birth of Samuel Beckett was launched in Dublin Castle last night by U2 singer Bono and the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O'Donoghue.
Numerous events will be taking place in April to celebrate the work of the Nobel Prize winner.
Bono was at the Beckett Centenary Festival launch at the invitation of Michael Colgan, Director of the Gate Theatre and the Chairman of the Beckett Centenary Committee.
Before the event Colgan asked Bono to perform a pastiche of Beckett and the singer was presented with a signed edition of Beckett's book 'Murphy'; Bono gave Beckett a copy of U2's 'The Unforgettable Fire' in 1985.

Smurfit European Open nets Ulster Bank ticket boost
Ulster Bank has agreed a deal to provide free public admission for the first round of this year's Smurfit Kappa European Open at the K Club.
The event tees off at the Kildare venue on July 6th and the for the first day, Ulster Bank will be absorbing the full one-day ticket cost of Eur35 per person, while all public car parking is also free of charge.
It is the first time that such an ambitious scheme has been undertaken and the generosity of the bank group means that a bumper crowd can be expected at the Ryder Cup venue for day one of what is always an eagerly anticipated event on the European Tour.
Cormac McCarthy, CEO for Ulster Bank Group, said of the arrangement: "This is the biggest year in Ireland's rich golfing history and we at Ulster Bank are delighted to play our part by giving everyone in Ireland the opportunity to see world-class players in the majestic surroundings of one of the country's greatest golfing venues."
Added to the free-ticket Thursday, event organisers are offering a special 'Long Weekend Ticket', permitting entry from Friday July 7th to Sunday July 9th for Eur70.
Previous winners of the event include Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Retief Goosen, Michael Campbell and last year's winner Kenneth Ferrie.

Trinity College Library Exhibition Showcases New Beckett Material
Trinity College Library celebrates the centenary of the birth of Samuel Beckett, one of the College’s most famous graduates, with an exhibition of its collection of Beckett-related material, some of which has not been on public display before. It was opened by Beckett’s nephew, Edward Beckett, and will run until June 2006.
“The exhibition focuses on the unique place Trinity College had in the life of Samuel Beckett as a student, a teacher and a patron. Using the extraordinary collection of Beckett letters and manuscripts in the Library, it traces the development of the author’s style from the showy erudition of the young man to the hesitant precision of the mature artist,” explained exhibition curator Jane Maxwell, of the Library’s Department of Manuscripts.
“Items on public display for the first time include the earliest working drafts of the prose work Imagination Dead Imagine; one of the earliest pieces of Beckett writing in existence – an undergraduate essay in Italian; and Beckett’s correspondence with his life-long friend Barbara Bray”.
Beckett graduated with a first in Modern Languages from TCD in 1927 and was a lecturer in French in 1930-31. While studying, he represented the College in cricket, played golf and chess and joined the Motor Cycle Club and the Historical Society. He was conferred with an Honorary Degree by the University in 1959. |
